The Hunger Games

If you're on Atkins, then this particular blog will probably not be very helpful for you. That being said, if you love bread and other baked goods, but mostly bread (because 2012 is the year of bread (for me)), then this is the place for you.

Got it?

Good, great, wonderful... let's get on with the baking!

When I was celebrating the new year, I never thought about doing something different with my year or even adding another blog to my repertoire. I can thank all of this extra work to Guy Fieri and the plethora of eclectic restaurants on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. So, thanks Foolish Craig's Cafe for making Guinness Stout Bread. For some reason, it made me obsessed with baking bread.

Instead of making the Guinness Bread, like I had originally planned for my first attempt, I found a recipe for Honey Beer Bread from Gimme Some Oven. Solid recipe and it was sans yeast. I thought it would be my best bet for my first try and guess what? I was correct. See below.

The bread turned out excellently and the aroma was amazing with the Blue Moon addition. Mmm.

After this bread success, I felt like I was on a roll (pun not intended) and found a recipe for Irish Brown Bread from King Arthur Flour Co. Unfortunately, my oven started smoking from something burning on the bottom, which freaked me out and in turn distracted me from concentrating on my dough, which turned out very poorly and too crumbly to knead. Needless to say, I was disappointed.

Alas, I didn't quit. If I had, I wouldn't be writing this brand new blog. What a waste of a blogspot address, if that was the case.

Any who, I plan on not only documenting my bread making endeavors, but also writing about the origins of certain breads, like the Irish Brown bread and Soda bread, etc. and make you learn a little bit, while also feeling like I'm using my history degree.

So, until next time. May the yeast be ever in your favor!
